Karin van der Molen π³π±
Karin van der Molen’s artistic practice is a blend of sculpture and installation, ephemeral and semi-permanent, rooted in a deep connection to ecology and society. Her work delves into the complex relationships between place, matter, humans, and non-humans, with a particular interest in historical and social perspectives. Her socially engaged art practice extends to the creation of and participation in two artist collaborations (Zest Artist Collective-ZAC and The White Flag Art Collaboration)βthe latter inspired by her background in human rights studies. As an environmental and site-specific artist, Karin van der Molen not only explores the physical nature of a place but also often draws inspiration from the socio-cultural fabric that defines it. The dynamic interplay between the artist, (often locally produced) materials, and the environment itself leads to a continuous process of improvisation and exchange. Her art serves as a catalyst for introspection and encourages a reassessment of our role within the complex web of nature, culture, and contemporary challenges at various levels. Her practice as a nomadic artist serves as a gateway to new environments, cultures, and people. Her work has been exhibited internationally, transcending borders and continents, and demonstrating her ability to adapt her practice to diverse contexts.
